The BayPort Foundation is dedicated to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” As the philanthropic arm of BayPort Credit Union, the Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity that focuses on wellness and education.
The Foundation offers grants and contributions to 501(c)(3) nonprofits and individuals. Our mission focuses on four philanthropic efforts: educational scholarships, financial literacy education, promoting family health and wellness, and hardship and emergency assistance.

$150,000 in college scholarships.The Foundation offers 11 different scholarships to 30 high school seniors, college students, and full-time working adults going back to school.
SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 2026/2027 ACADEMIC YEAR ARE CLOSED.
High school seniors
Awarded annually to 6 high school seniors. Each recipient receives a $16,000 scholarship, $4,000 per year for four years at an accredited college or university. Available for a 2+2 educational pathway.
High school seniors
Awarded annually to 1 high school senior who is a dependent of a BayPort employee. Recipient receives an $8,000 scholarship, $2,000 per year for four years at an accredited college or university.
College students
Awarded annually to 8 full-time students enrolled in an accredited college or university, trade school, or vocational school. Recipients receive a one-time $2,000 award.
College students
Awarded annually to 1 full-time student enrolled in an accredited college or university, trade, or vocational school who is a spouse or dependent of a BayPort employee. Recipient receives a $2,000 one-time award.
College students
Awarded annually to 1 Virginia Peninsula Community College graduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university. Recipient receives a one-time $2,000 award.
College students
Awarded annually to 1 student attending the Virginia Peninsula Community College Early Childhood Development program. Recipient receives a one-time $2,000 award.
College students
Awarded annually to 1 college student, rising junior or senior, pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university, majoring in computer/information science or electrical engineering, or pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. Recipient receives a one-time $2,000 award.
College students
Awarded annually to 2 students entering a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics program at Virginia Peninsula Community College. Recipients receive a one-time $2,000 award.
Working adults
Awarded annually to 2 apprentices or graduates of The Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding who wish to pursue full- or part-time study at an institution of higher education toward completing an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree. Recipients receive a one-time $2,000 award.
Working adults
Awarded annually to 6 full-time working professionals currently enrolled full- or part-time in an accredited college or university, trade, or vocational school. Recipients receive a one-time $2,000 award.
Working adults
Awarded annually to 2 graduates of The Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding who wish to pursue full- or part-time study at an institution of higher education. Recipients receive a one-time $2,000 award.
Applications are evaluated on the following criteria: GPA, academic achievements, financial need, school and community involvement, and a written essay. Applicants must be pursuing a degree or certification at an accredited college, university, or technical school.
BayPort Credit Union pays all the overhead to ensure that 100% of the contributions support the Foundation’s mission and programs.
