Beard/Bennett Memorial Scholarships

Applicants must be High School Seniors or home schooled students to qualify. Beard/Bennett applicants are not eligible for Tuition Booster or Directors Scholarships. Children or dependents of employees, directors or committee members of the Credit Union are not eligible.

The Beard/Bennett Memorial Scholarships consist of six (6) awards. Essay winners will receive a $6,000 scholarship ($1,500 each year for four years to an accredited college or university, with the stipulation that each recipient must maintain a 3.0 grade point average each year to continue receiving the award). The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner's choice, provided it is used within one year after graduation.

Each applicant must write an essay, between 500-650 words. The topic "The Year is 2030 and you are on the cover of TIME magazine". Write the article. Your essay should be creative, imaginative and innovated. It can be non-fictional. It should convey a global impact not necessarily focusing solely on your career goals. Impress us!

Directors Scholarships

Applicants: Full-time undergraduate or graduate students (applicants cannot apply for both the Tuition Booster and the Directors Scholarships). Children or dependents of employees, directors or committee members of the Credit Union are not eligible.

The Directors Scholarships consist of six (6) awards of $1,500 each. These one-time scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate members who are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, trade or vocational school. The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner's choice.

Applicants must write an essay on "Why I need the funds" and provide a copy of their current transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

Tuition Booster Scholarships

Applicants: Full-Time Working Professionals (applicants cannot apply for both Tuition Booster and Directors Scholarships). Children or dependents of employees, directors or committee members of the Credit Union are not eligible.

Tuition Booster Scholarships are designed for the full-time working professional and are open to full-time or part-time students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. These $1000 one-time cash awards help defray the costs of an education. A total of seven $1000 cash awards will be awarded. Funds will be issued directly to the winner to help cover educational costs such as books and course registration fees.

Applicants must write an essay on "Why I need the funds" and provide a copy of their current transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

Wiatt Memorial Scholarships

Applicants: Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. Children or dependents of employees, directors or committee members of the Credit Union are not eligible.

Apprentice School graduates still employed by or on educational leave from Newport News Shipbuilding, who wish to pursue full or part-time study at an institution of higher education toward completion of an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree. Applicants must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll by Fall, 2014. There will be up to three (3) scholarships presented for a total of $1,500. The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner's choice. Applicants are eligible to win more than once. Applications are available through the Apprentice School.

 

Children or dependents of BayPort employees, directors or committee members are not eligible for BayPort Scholarships.
