Scholarships

High school students, college students, working professionals and Newport News Shipbuilding employees all have the opportunity to win scholarship money presented by BayPort Credit Union. BayPort accepted scholarship applications for the autumn 2015 semester until 8:00 am ET, April 1, 2015.

Beard/Bennett Memorial Scholarships

The Beard/Bennett Memorial Scholarships consist of six awards. Essay winners will receive a $6,000 scholarship ($1,500 each year for four years to an accredited college or university with the stipulation that each recipient must maintain a 3.0 grade point average each year to continue receiving the award). The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner's choice, provided it is used within one year after graduation.

Applicants must be high school seniors or home-schooled students to qualify. Applicants are not eligible for Tuition Booster or Directors Scholarships. Children or dependents of BayPort Credit Union employees, directors or committee members are not eligible.

Directors Scholarships

The Directors Scholarships consist of six awards of $1,500 each. These one-time scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate members who are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, trade or vocational school. The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner's choice.

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students. Applicants are not eligible for both the Tuition Booster and the Directors Scholarships. Children or dependents of BayPort Credit Union employees, directors or committee members are not eligible.

Tuition Booster Scholarships

Tuition Booster Scholarships are designed for the full-time working professional and are open to full-time or part-time students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. These $1,000 one-time cash awards help defray the costs of an education. A total of seven $1,000 cash awards will be awarded. Funds will be issued directly to the winner to help cover educational costs such as books and course registration fees.

Applicants must be full-time working professionals. Applicants are not eligible for both Tuition Booster and Directors Scholarships. Children or dependents of BayPort Credit Union employees, directors or committee members are not eligible.

Wiatt Memorial Scholarships

Wiatt Memorial Scholarships are for Apprentice School graduates still employed by or on educational leave from Newport News Shipbuilding who wish to pursue full or part-time study at an institution of higher education toward completion of an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree. Applicants must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll by the autumn 2015 semester. There will be up to three scholarships presented for a total of $1,500. The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner's choice. Applicants are eligible to win more than once. Applications are available through the Apprentice School.

Applicants must be graduates of the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. Children or dependents of BayPort Credit Union employees, directors or committee members are not eligible.
